Lonely Planet ranks Sri Lanka as #1 country to visit in 2013

Having gained the reputation of a hot-spot holiday destination, Sri Lanka has had the honour of now being ranked as the number one country to visit in 2013 by Lonely Planet. With the island returning to normalcy, after the end of its three decade conflict, it seems fitting that Lonely Planet should title the piece on Sri Lanka as ‘Serenity returns to Serendib’.

With social and infrastructure development projects sweeping across the island, the country has also begun a more intensified effort toward beautification and environmental conservation ventures. The island has become a haven for water sports enthusiasts and professional surfers, paying homage to Sri Lanka’s East, North and South coasts. The country has also become synonymous with the traditional-indigenous form of medicine known as Ayurveda, with hundreds of travellers taking time off to enjoy one of the many Ayurveda spas and getaways on the island. The upcoming United Nations Women’s Guild Bazaar to be held at the UN headquarters in Geneva, has recently announced that the 2nd prize of its raffle draw would include return air tickets to Sri Lanka with 6 days of Ayurveda therapy at the prestigious Siddhalepa health resort.
